Here’s my take tho: I dont remember him transforming into some weird amalgamation of all his monsters, but the fight with the rainbow sword lady was probably important for building up later plottwists or revelations. For starters: we learned that someone betrayed rimuru. Someone that knows he’s a reincarnation (there’s likely only a handful of people who know he is japanese).
